This is a story of how the world changed forever. This is an all-new experience that takes place across the entire decade.

It was in 2009 when and introduced gamers with its Dragon Age: Origins (DAO). Now, the renowned RPG developer officially confirmed that the development for its full-fledged sequel is on its way. Dragon Age II (DA2) features a new hero, a different part of the world, and tons of improvements.

Dr. Ray Muzyka, senior VP of EA and co-founder of BioWare said that “ will simultaneously deliver an epic story and will set a new bar of intense action in the genre”. Executive producer, Mark Darrah, affirms that BioWare is doing its best to make sure that the fans of DAO will retain a sense of satisfaction and familiarity in the world. Simply put, Darrah is talking about referencing events on the first game or a Mass Effect 2-style save transfer is being planned.

The New Protagonist

Finally, the game’s new protagonist was named as .

Hawke is a voiced character, and a “refugee who rises to power to become the single most important character in the world of Dragon Age.” Plus, he is also human in either male or female form. Though you can’t choose the character’s race, BioWare did not eliminate character creation. You can still customize your appearance and choose your class between mage, rouge and warrior. One more thing about Hawke, he didn’t just survive the blight — He escaped it! DAO fans will remember so well that the small village of Lothering was raided and destroyed. And instead of staying to fight the darkspawn menace, Hawke fled out of the village.

Some of the action in DA2 is set in Kirkwall, a major population center in Free Marches, where the protagonist is the Champion. But what exactly Hawke does to earn the honorary title of Champion is up to you. In short, Hawke drives the story.

What to Expect

The game promises that players will think like a general and fight like a Spartan. And unlike DAO, DA2 will be fully voiced opening a new door for more cinematic approach to dialogue and it will create an identity for the character outside on-screen text.

DA2 is not about killing an ancient evil, instead Hawke will be the driving force of the narrative. Player’s actions, decisions, and choices will determine Hawke’s history, regrets and relationship over the 10 year time line of the game. DA2 will also get the ME2 conversation wheel, but the center of the wheel this time will show a symbol that indicates what kind of reply it is.

Though the combat system in a PC version will remain the same, Dragon Age II has a battle system made for PS3 and 360.
