First Ladies Commemorate 9/11 Tragedy

Michelle Obama and Laura Bush remember the victims of the terrorist attack nine years ago.

First Lady will join the former first lady in a ceremony to commemorate the victims in Shanksville, Pa. The announcement was made by the National Park Foundation.

The official press release states, “In 2001, the Western Overlook was the location of the investigative command post for Flight 93 and was the point from which the families of the passengers and crew first observed the crash site. It was also where the media reported on the crash and provided the public with the first images from the crash scene.”

Mrs. Bush was the first lady of the United States during the . She shared her thoughts about the incident in her published memoir entitled ,”Spoken From the Heart.” The former first lady recalled the moment as “a brilliant cerulean blue sky…the world as I knew it had irrevocably changed.”

In the first anniversary of the attack, President Bush and his first lady attended the ceremony at Ground Zero in New York City.  On the other hand, during the eight year anniversary, President Obama and Michelle Obama took part in the “9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance” event.
