"We've got a hunch..." is not the typical answer you will get from Hunch, the collective intelligence tool that provides personalized recommendations based on a set of answers given by users. From social readings to TV shows to technology, it now enlists nearby areas that are best for you.

has launched its own feature in alpha version, where you can get suggestions on places to go from restaurants and hotels to spas and groceries around you. There is a good deal of users who can attest to the accuracy of the recommendations.

This accuracy relies on the percentages of users’ input to Hunch, that is why it currently works well for urban areas.

But what sets this app apart is its algorithm, which is “just a mathematical framework.” Hunch attributes the fun, nuances and cleverness to its users who give the algorithm its “proper training and personality.”

Co-founder Chris Dixon said they are also banking on this technology: “The best way to leverage our technology is by partnering with other site.” And that also goes with developers as they plan to release a new version of their self-service API. Dixon thinks that Local Search in particular could help personalize location-based services such as Yelp and Foursquare, such as personalized ratings for the former.
