“Lockdown” Sign Hangs on Zuckerberg’s Office Door

Facebook chief executive works hard to fend off Google’s effort to dominate the social network scene.

Last June, rumors spread like wildfire that is preparing for a social network war with . The project was dubbed as Me, and it was later on became more certain after the search giant acquired Slide, a social app maker.

Other gadget sites like TeleCrunch speculated that it is an exclusive war between Google and Facebook. The site added that its spearheaded by Vice President of Engineering Vic Gundotra.

According to the sources that the website VentureBeat  talked to, Facebook chief executive Mark is striving hard to repel these efforts made by Google. even placed the company on a “lockdown” for the next 60 days. It was reported that the office, based in Palo Alto, is open until the weekend as the company works double time to revamp the Photos, Groups and Events before the grand Google launch.

In David Kirkpatrick’s book The Facebook Effect, he described that during a “lockdown”, Zuckerberg would not allow anyone to be out of the office until the work is done. To exaggerate more, there was a neon sign saying “lockdown” on Zuckerberg’s office door.

An official statement from Facebook was sent to VentureBeat to clear this issue:

Our focus is always on improving our products and creating new ways for people to connect and share information. We’re not going to engage in rumors about our future plans.
