Facebook launches Places, a new application that lets you know about the hottest spots in the city.

It’s Friday night, drink in hand and you think you’re in the best place in town. You want your friends to know about it and invite them over. So what do you do? You login to . This new mobile application allows users to tell the world about the latest hangout place in the area.

Another great thing about this new feature from is you can see who among your other friends are attending the same event you are in. It’s definitely the more, the merrier.

You can choose the option to let people know about your current location by “checking in”. Once you are in, you will also spot any of your friends who are also in the same place.

To get you going with this new app, use the most recent version of Facebook application for . Moreover, you can access Places once you browse or if your mobile browser supports HTML 5 or geolocation.

Once you’re logged in on Places, tap the “Check In” button. See the places near you or add a new location. After checking in, a story will be posted on your friends’ news feeds and it will also create a Recent Activity post on the page of the said place.

Right now, Places is only available in the US but Facebook team promises to expand its coverage in the months to come.
