After several months of negotiation, Hewlett-Packard Co. buys software-maker ArcSight.

Co, is closing the deal with security software maker Inc. with the amount of $1.5 billion. This is part of the spending spree the company is doing after the resignation of Chief Executive Mark Hurd a month ago.

This move is a clear sign of the trend becoming popular nowadays, that is, bigger companies purchasing smaller ones. This is a way for huge companies to safeguard their product portfolio.

ArcSight shares ended last Monday at $43.91, a raise of 70% premium since its starting price a month ago. The company is maker of softwares which protect corporation against hackers.

H-P’s executive vice president of software and solutions Bill Veghte said about this partnership, “The combination of H-P and ArcSight will provide clients with the ability to fortify their applications, proactively monitor events and respond to threats.”
