Adobe AIR Landing on TV

Adobe Systems Inc. is in for something new, as their latest version of Adobe AIR is soon to hit the television. Consumers has something fresh to wait for early next year. Check out for more AIR 2.5 updates below.

Systems Inc. announced today at the MAX 2010 that AIR is coming to the TV screen. The AIR 2.5 software will support various smartphones, tablet and desktop platforms. More over, it is now being extended with the first AIR-enabled TV, shipping in the first quarter of 2011. Samsung will be the first hardware OEM to flag in its SmartTV devices, but no release date was posted yet. AIR currently supports Android, BlackBerry’s Tablet OS and iOS. Acer, HTC, Motorola, RIM and Samsung are all set to ship a pre-installed AIR runtime on both tablet and smartphone devices.

However, big screen is not the only update that AIR has. It also includes support for accelerometer, camera, video, microphone, multi-touch, gesture and geo-location. In addition to it, AIR is also capable of displaying native browser controls for HTML and .SWF integration and SQLite database support. Acceleration on hardware across major partners like Intel, NVIDIA, ST Micro, Trident, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm and more are also included.

Adobe AIR 2.5 will arrive today on the company’s website, together with its Software Developer Kit. Users running the Android Froyo on their smartphones will be able to directly download the updated Adobe AIR version, straight from the Android Market. However, AIR 2.5 for BlackBerry’s Tablet OS and Samsung’s SmartTV will arrive next year.
