Barnes & Noble Flips the New Nook

Barnes & Noble dressed the Nook with a new color, better anti-glare technology and social media connection capability.

The debut of Barnes & Noble’s (B&N) new touchscreen color reader, , came with skepticism. This was a contradiction of what should be a hype similar to what happened when iPad was unveiled last January.

B&N presented Nook during a press conference at their flagship store in Manhattan. The new device sported a black color and dubbed as “the first reader’s tablet.” The Nook is a  7″ Wi-Fi enabled device — 8″ high, 5″ wide, and weighing 15.6 ounces and equipped with full lamination. B&N CEO said that the lamination feature “maximize the readability benefits of a backlit screen while minimizing the glare.” Also, the device is powered by Google’s Android mobile OS.

The Nook comes with 8GB memory which can store over 6,000 books. Readers can share the contents of their Nooks via Twitter and Facebook. The Nook Newsstand service offers free subscription to more than 100 magazines and newspapers.

The Nook is priced at $249 and will start shipping on November 19.
