Don’t Fall for the ‘OMG’ Facebook Scam

A Facebook app claims it can provide information of who views a user’s profile. Resist the temptation of clicking this link or you are next in line to be the victim of this latest Facebook scam.

Another is at large and reported to be affecting thousand of users. The scam is posted on Walls and read:  “OMG OMG OMG… I cant believe this actually works! Now you really can see who viewed your profile!” Once a users fall for the trick, the victim will be redirected to a different page which will ask for access on the user’s Facebook pages. Upon permission of the user, the scam will spam other Facebook users and not provide the information of who viewed the user’s profile.

The scheme behind this Facebook scam is easy: people are persuaded to try a feature that is not currently on Facebook which will eventually spam thousands more of users. The latest Facebook scam was reported to already affected 60,000 users.

Next time, be careful with links inviting users for upgrades and other services. To repair the damage made by this scam, user can go to Facebook Privacy Settings menu and disable active applications.
