Hawaii lawmakers made an act that they believed will promote equality among people.

Legislators in Hawaii approved a bill today that permit civil unions for homosexual couples. The move puts an end to the “emotional process” that comes with this battle for gay rights.

Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie’s office mentioned that signing the bill into a law will happen in 10 business days. Civil union ceremonies will begin Jan. 1,2012. This makes Hawaii the seventh nation to allow same rights of marriage to couple of the same sex.

“I have always believed that civil unions respect our diversity, protect people’s privacy, and reinforce our core values of equality and aloha,” Abercrombie wrote in a statement which was released hours after the decision. “For me, this bill represents equal rights for all the people of Hawai’i,” he added.

On the other hand, Kristin Bacon of Honolulu who plans to marry a longtime partner said, “I’m overjoyed. I’m so relieved. I’m so happy. We’re really representing aloha and the aloha spirit with this vote. I’m thrilled.”
