Chinese Road Workers Dig Up 700-Year-Old Mummy

This is the day when the mummy returns.

A normal day at a construction site turned extraordinary when road workers unearthed a well-preserved 700-year-old mummy.

The workers digging the road in Taizhou found the 5 feet tomb and two more coffins and immediately called archaeologists from Museum of Taizhou for help. The coffin contained a woman submerged in brown liquid. Experts say that the liquid might be the reason why the body is in its pristine condition; even the eyelashes were in place.

The dress of the woman, the ceramics and the ring on the woman’s finger traced back its roots to . If proven correct, her existence can be pointed between 1368 and 1644. During the rule of the said dynasty, only bodies of prominent people are qualified for the mummification process.
