Mothers from Michigan relived the big nights of their high school years through partying! But this activity is not just about cocktail dresses, cosmetics or dancing because the proceeds of this work go to good causes.

The women who attend the event, commonly known as “” in Detroit, parties in makeshift prom dresses like wedding or bridesmaid gowns. The ladies gather and mingle with other women in the community but keeping in mind the goal of raising fund for cancer research and other charitable groups.

Organizer Betsy Crapps have this idea in mind: “We’re changing the world, ladies, one prom at a time.” Crapps started the shindig when many of her friends were amused of the vintage pink gown she wore for a friends’ Academy Awards watch party. Since then, her female friends were inspired to come together and dress up in tacky outfits—but all in the name of charity.

The “Mom Prom” has helped organizations like Society of St. Vincent de Paul, HHT Foundation, Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and First Step.
