Android users can now get their instant dose of current events as CNN debuts its all-new Android app.

Officially launched last Tuesday, the app serves “text and multimedia news and gives users access to iReport, the network’s participatory news community.”

The app aims to give its users “an immersive news experience” along with a sophisticated but user-friendly interface. Content-wise, the app allows users access to a wide array of resources from the news network, plus live reports from the field, interviews, podcasts and user-submitted content.

Furthermore, the app also features news in audio formats, with content from CNN Radio. On a Mashable review, the app is also said to allow easy toggling between U.S. and international editions. Users can browse news by content (politics, sports, etc.) or by format (radio, video, etc.).

Also from the said review, “users can also personalize the app to include local information (including weather), radio and podcast ‘favorites,’ ReadItLater-like features, and a respectable lineup of social sharing options. Push notifications and a home screen widget for breaking news are also available.”

The iReport section meanwhile lets users act as journalists as the feature allows its users to submit eyewitness photos and videos to CNN through the app.

The official app is free and is now available for download. The app runs on Android 2.1 and higher.
