Bloomsday Celebration via Twitter

A team of brave volunteers have taken to Twitter Thursday to compress James Joyce’s classic into 140-character bursts, all in honor of Bloomsday.

Steve Cole, Baltimore resident and self-proclaimed Joyce fanatic launched the experiment well before the actual date (June 16), asking for volunteers to take part in the retelling. Slow readers do not need to worry because Cole and Co. are not simply re-posting in its entirety.

Cole says in a statement, “That would be dull and impossible… what is proposed here is a recasting or a re-imagining of the reading experience of this novel, start to finish, within the confines of a day-long series of tweets from a global volunteer army of Joyce-sodden tweeps.”

The show started at 8 a.m. (Dublin time) which will continue for 24 hours. During which a cast of Joyce lovers will share their retelling via the account @11ysses — six tweets every 15 minutes.
