According to programming legend, John Carmack, the and will be ten times more powerful than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. He also added that Microsoft and ’s respective home gaming consoles will hit the shelves ‘in a couple of years’.

This week, reports suggested that Microsoft will unveil its next Xbox at E3 2012, while they are working for a 2013 release. On the other hand, Sony will continue to push its ten-year life cycle prediction for the PlayStation 3. Regardless, John Carmack said that the next gaming consoles will give game creators a tough challenge: What will they do have an outstanding graphics?

“The better games get the harder you have to go to give a delta people care about. That’s going to be a challenge for the next-generation of consoles, to show what pack-in title is going to look so much more awesome than what you get on the current ones that people want to go spend $300 on a new console.

“They’ll be able to do it on the next generation, but it’s going to be much harder.”
