Spotify Goes Live in the US, but as Invite-only Service

At long last! Spotify is now open for the American public. Oh wait... Where's your invitation?

After months of speculations and delays due to its deals with the four major record labels, was finally opened to the American public last Thursday. The European music service offers two premium and one free, ad-supported subscription plans. However the service is only available via invites.

Based on Spotify, the free subscription plan offers access to more than 15 million songs via web browser. Users can also manage their personal music files, and sync them to their smartphones. Moreover, the free version also playlist management and Spotify Social. However, the service will impose a 20-hour per month limit in the days to come.

Meanwhile, users can get the Unlimited Plan for only $4.99 per month. This subscription eradicates advertisements and time restraints, and unlocks the radio mode as well. For $9.99, however, Spotify Premium offers “the all-singing, all-dancing, top-of-the-range Spotify experience.” More than the said features, users can listen to music – both online and offline – with this subscription plan.

In the next couple of weeks, Spotify’s free version is anticipated to go public.
