Bit.ly Acquires Twitterfeed, Enhances Social Media Functions

Bit.ly has acquired automated social publishing tool, Twitterfeed, extending its capabilities into the social media platform.

, a popular URL shortening service on the micro-blogging website , has just bought .

Twitterfeed is a program which lets bloggers publish their write-ups and into Twitter, Facebook, and other social services. According to the company, the purpose of this acquisition was to improve the functions of the two services, making it easier for web users to organize, shorten, and share their links. Bit.ly is probably the best to date – in fact, it is the default URL shortening service of Twitter before they’ve planned to develop their own.

“For years now, we’ve worked closely with our friends at Twitterfeed to enhance their publishing tools with branded short links and real-time data,” Bit.ly blogged. “Today, we are excited to announce that we have acquired Twitterfeed, and to welcome both Twitterfeed and its users to the Bitly family.”

Although Bit.ly acquired the Twitterfeed in order to enhance their functions more, the company pointed out that both services will continue to provide help without affecting one’s ownership.

, Twitterfeed founder, stated: “I myself will continue to be involved in Twitterfeed much as before, except now as part of Bitly. In the short term, nothing dramatic will change, while we are looking into areas where closer co-operation and development make sense.”
