Samsung Galaxy S II, to Compete iPhone 5

Samsung gave a hint that their upgraded Galaxy S II will include 1.5GHz Exynos dual-core processor to compete against iPhone 5.

has tipped its hand early on some of its plans for their smartphone with an early Korean unveiling of the newly upgraded . The new LTE is packed with 4G, a larger 4.5 inch screen, and an even faster 1.5GHz Exynos dual-core processor. It also NFC wireless and a larger 1,850mAH battery.

Samsung also claimed that the Galaxy Tab 8.9’s month-delayed launch is also rewarding buyers for the wait. Along with the LTE, the tablet would get the same 1.5GHz dual-core chips and ships with 3.2. Despite its smaller screen, it should still measure 8.6mm thick like the Tab 10.1.

Samsung still didn’t announced any dates for the new phone or tablet. In the U.S., the upgraded and redesigned Galaxy S II will be included in the August 30 launch. It is also widely presumed that the device will be shipping to the US in Spetember for , , and with respective LTE, WiMAX and 42Mbps HSPA+ connections that offers the 4G-equivalent speeds. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 is rumored to roll out within a few weeks.

The revamp is uncharacteristic for Samsung, which often leaves its flagship smartphones untouched all year. Suspicions already exist that the faster Galaxy S II is a defensive measure against the iPhone 5’s rumored October release. It might also be an attempt to circumvent ’s bans on Galaxy phones in Europe, and potentially in the US, by having a new model in shops.
