NASA releases 'Blue Marble 2012', a stunning high-definition image of earth.

released the latest, most accurate image of Planet Earth. The “ 2013″ is an up-to-date high-definition image of Earth which was generated using data gathered on January 4, 2012 by the recently launched, satellite.

The Suomi NPP, named after University of Wisconsin meteorologist, , whom NASA calls “the father of satellite meteorology”, is an Earth-observing satellite that collects data from an altitude of 512 miles. It was launched on October 28 with the purpose of gathering data for ‘forecasting weather’ and further research on climate change.
