Wikipedia To Shutdown in Protest of SOPA

Wikipedia announces plans for a 24-hour shutdown on Wednesday in protest of SOPA and PIPA.

’s English language site will go offline for 24-hours in protest of and PIPA, two proposed legislations that may potentially harm ‘the free and open Internet’.

The protest which is scheduled on Wednesday was announced by Wikipedia Co-Founder Jimmy Wales through a series of tweets.

Wikipedia, the most-widely used online encyclopedia, currently ranks as the sixth most popular website according to Alexa, and is estimated to have an average of 25 million visitors daily.
