British Founder of TVShack, Extradited to U.S. to Face Piracy Charges

Richard O’Dwyer, a British student who founded by the video-streaming site TVShack.net, has been ordered by a U.K. judge to be extradited to the United States to face his case of copyright infringement.

U.S. authorities claim that his site hosted links to copyrighted and pirated videos, earning up to $250,000 USD by advertising illegal content.

O’Dwyer’s mother tells BBC that this ruling is not fair.

“If Richard appears to have committed a crime in this country — then try him in this country. Instead, the home secretary wants to send him thousands of miles away and leave him languishing … in a U.S. jail…”

O’Dwyer will be extradited to the U.S. to face his charges filed against him by the American authorities, though he is a resident of the United Kingdom. He could face up to 10 years in Jail, if found guilty.
