Dine with the Dead in an Indian Restaurant
The New Lucky Restaurant in Ahmedabad, India is situated on top of a cemetery
There’s nothing as awkward as dining in a cemetery. However, a restaurant in India, let’s you experience that and their customers doesn’t seem to care that their dining with the dead.
The New Lucky Restaurant is located in Ahmedabad, India. It is built on top of an old Muslim cemetery. Green graves are scattered all though out the restaurant. Some are even located in between tables. The tombs are believed to be the resting places of relatives of a 16th-century Sufi saint, whose tomb lies nearby.
The restaurant owner, Krishan Kutti Nair, explains that the restaurant used to be a tea stall outside the cemetery. Since business was good he and his former business partner, expanded the whole place until it started encircling some of the graves.
In India, space is luxury, since the country is over populated. Cemeteries not only cater to the dead, it can also serve as a commercial and residential place.
Nair believes that the tombs are his good luck charm. He wipes them with a damp cloth and decorates them with fresh flowers every morning.
Nair also adds that his restaurant’s creepy location is good for business:
