Facekini, China’s Latest Beach Craze
Facekini is a face mask that protects the face from the sun's harmful UV rays.
Chinese women will do everything to protect their skin nowadays. Take for example, their latest beach craze, the Facekini, a face mask that looks creepy when worn but serves as a protection from the sun’s harmful UV rays.
This weird looking accessory was first spotted in the beaches of Qingdao, China. It is made of a stretchable fabric that covers the entire head up to the collarbone. It has holes cut out for the neck, nose and mouth. It doesn’t only protect the face from the sun, it is said to repel beach goers from getting stinged by a jellyfish and bitten by insects.
The Facekini is so popular, that it is made in different colors, allowing wearers to pair it with their swimming suit. It also has a smaller version for especially made for kids. It can be bought for 15 to 25 yuan ($2.40 to $4.00) a piece.
