Japanese Photographer Preserves Love by Wrapping Couples in Vacuumed Plastic Bags [Video]
Project Flesh Love, shows bizarre images of couples who are huddled together in weird positions, in vacuumed plastic wrap
Japanese photographer Haruhiko Kawaguchi literally preserves love by taking pictures of couples who are huddled together in vacuumed plastic wrap.
Kawaguchi’s Project Flesh Love, aims to keep love fresh by packaging people in 100 by 150 by 74 centimeters plastic bag, he orders online.
The photos hoot takes place in Kawaguchi’s apartment, where he is accompanied by his American girlfriend, Katherine. Two people, usually couples, have their body parts arranged in a position he prefers. The subjects are first covered with lubricant, to avoid experiencing a burning sensation when the plastic clings to the skin, after air has been vacuumed. He then seals them by using an old vacuum cleaner, to suck out all the air and make them looked like “packaged meat bought from the supermarket.”
It takes Kawaguchi 10 to seconds to take pictures of the shrink wrapped couple. The couple has to endure lack of air, pressure and their uncomfortable position, all in the name of love. Couples claim that the feeling is not at all pleasant. They can hardly breathe and their ears pop, as if they are diving into deep waters. Some have panicked and even peed on their pants. Kawaguchi also keeps an oxygen spray nearby in case of emergency.
Kawaguchi has shot around 80 couples for Flesh Love. He believes that his pictures capture the hottest and greatest moments of love.
