Smartphone for the Blind Recently Introduced
Qualcomm has developed a multi-function mobile device for the visually impaired.
The Ray is a “always-on, easy-to-use, multi-function” device that features a special user interface designed for an eye-free interaction with services including phone calls, text messaging with vocal read-out, navigation, object recognition, social network services, remote assistance, audio-book reading, and other leisure and entertainment offerings. It also boasts of a round-the- clock broadband connectivity.
It makes use of an off-the-shelf Android smartphone that runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor. It is set to be released as an affordable handset.
The Ray is currently on trial use with over 100 visually impaired participants in Israel. It is unclear when it will be released in other countries.View Article Source »
