Cornell University has built a grass lawn inside their school library as a part of a project of their institution’s Department of Design and Environmental Analysis.
The department is currently conducting a research on “Attention Restoration Theory”, where they plan to incorporate nature in crowded areas, to help students relax and concentrate better. According to a study, prolonged study causes stress and mental fatigue.
The library “lawn” features a real patch of grass and a sofa around the edges. Students can comfortably sit back and relax on the sofa. They can even lie down and roll over the grass.
