New Facebook App Bday Gift Finder Revealed

Do you find it hard to look for a birthday present? Let this new Facebook app help you.

The company Bday recently unveiled a called Bday Gift Finder which scans your friend’s profiles for hints for gift suggestions. Bday was funded $2 million dollar for this project.

The concept behind the Bday Gift Finder is simple. After you hooked up the app to your profile, it simply examines the pages liked by your friend. You can click on a friend’s profile to check the retailers where you can likely buy the gist. You can also directly buy the presents from Bday Gift Finder but it comes in the form of gift cards.

The long term goal of Bday is to partner with retailers. Evetually, the site will take percentage in every transaction made through Facebook. For now, the app is just driving the users to the retailers to urge them to shop for presents.

British Tourists Deported For ‘Destroy America’ Twitter Joke

Two British tourists barred from entering U.S. over a twitter joke to 'destroy America'.

Two tourists from the U.K. were detained and barred from entering the U.S. over a twitter joke. Leigh Van Bryan, a 20-something Irish national currently residing in Coventry, U.K. was placed on a “One Day Lookout” list by the Department of Homeland Security for posting a suggestive message to ‘destroy America’ and ‘diggin’ up Marilyn Monroe’.

Bryan and his friend Emily Bunting flew to Los Angeles for vacation but were welcomed by Homeland Security Officials. Both were questioned and detained for 12 hours before they were deported back to the U.K.

YouTube Gets 4 Billion Views a Day

Thanks to smartphones and televisions, YouTube viewership increased by 25%.

released an official confirmation that has been receiving 4 billion video views a day. Reuters released additional news on Monday and mentioned that there was 25% increase in the video-hosting site’s viewership.

Google added that 60 hours of new video content is uploaded every minute. Last May, the statistics showed that only 48 hours of video were added per minute.

The increase in the viewer’s population brought about $5 billion worth of revenue from advertisements.

Google+ announces a new policy that allows the use of nicknames, maiden names or alternate names.

Vice of Products Bradley Horowitz has announced a new policy that allows the use of nicknames or alternate names.

This new policy enables support for alternate names by allowing users to add additional names such as nicknames, maiden names or names in another script. This name will appear on the user’s Google+ profile page and in the hovercard alongside the common name.

Horowitz posted the announcement on his Google+ page, stating that the new policy hopes to ‘address and remedy’ the majority of name related appeals that Google+ has been receiving. It also aims to simplify the use of pseudonyms that will benefit individuals with established identities.

Social news sharing website Reddit announced plans for a 12-hour blackout on January 18 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to protest the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).

The decision was announced in an official blog post written by the site’s administrators on Tuesday, January 10th. It states that during the 12-hour period, the usual user-submitted content will be replaced by “a simple message about how the PIPA/SOPA legislation would shut down sites like Reddit”.
