Super Mario, an icon in video games. Our all time favorite for 25 years.

Happy Birthday Super Mario!

Our favorite game character, Super Mario, turns 25 today. He was born in Japan through Famicom, a Japanese version of what Americans call the Nintendo Entertainment System. From that day, Mario became an icon not just in games but all over the world.

Mario appeared in arcade games Donkey Kong and Mario Bros, but Super Mario Bros. was the one who propelled Mario and became significantly relevant during the ’80s.

The game was hand in hand with the Nintendo Entertainment System in the US. Super Mario has already sold 40 million copies over the past 25 years. In fact, it was the best-selling video game of all time.

To celebrate the 25 years of our favorite Italian plumber, Nintendo released a video which shows a timeline of the major Mario releases.

Press play and see how Mario evolved through the years.
