Cave Story 3D, on its Way to 3DS

This summer is going to be hotter as Daisuke Amaya's Cave Story 3D is being reconstructed for 3DS. Modern characters and environments are on its way!

The publisher of Disgaea, NIS America, announced yesterday that Daisuke Amaya’s Cave Story will hit the Nintendo 3DS this summer. Back in 2004, the Cave Story appeared on the indie scene as a freeware PC game developed by Daisuke Amaya. It immediately gained following due to its Metroid-style gameplay and retro graphics. In 2010, the Cave Story was ported to WiiWare and DSiWare.

However, the Cave Story 3D is no longer a straight port. Game developer, Daisuke Amaya, is rebuilding the game from scratch, with all the characters and environment being remodeled to look modern. Though Daisuke Amaya is not yet ready to divulge any details about the Cave Story 3D, new contents are already being added to give more depth to the game.

Get ready for summer, because this new game is going to be for the win!

Happy Pre-Order a Nintendo 3DS Day!

Written on January 20, 2011 by Chris Martin

They're not lining up to get a 3DS, but they're lining up to make sure they get a 3DS once it hits the stores next month.

The Nintendo 3DS is so popular that people are starting to line-up around the techi-est district in Japan. But the Nintendo 3DS won’t be launched until next month there, so what the heck are these people doing outside the streets of Akihabara? Don’t worry, these people are not planning to camp outside for 30+ days (though we wouldn’t be surprised if they did). These people are lining up to get a shot for the pre-orders of the handheld console which Nintendo has officially kicked off today at retailers nationwide.

A blogger where the photo was posted has mentioned that around 260 people were lined up for pre-orders, but that was hours ago. Imagine how many people are out there waiting to get a reaffirmation that they’ll have one on release date. Reports say that only 400,000 Nintendo 3DS units will be available upon release date. Nintendo has mentioned that a total of 1.5 million consoles will be available until the end of the fiscal year or March 31. No word yet as to how many 3DS units will be available in other parts of the globe once the console has been released on March 27.

Nintendo Wii Leads December Sales; Xbox 360 Beats PS3 Thanks to Kinect

Written on January 11, 2011 by Chris Martin

Michael Pacther predicts Nintendo Wii sales have dipped but is still leading the console wars for December. Xbox 360 units have outsold PS3 once again.

According to Wedbush Securities games industry analyst, Michael Pacther, Nintendo Wii has once again dominated the holiday season in the December sales, just before the NPD group reveals their December data. He also predicted that Xbox 360 has had a better run during December than Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3). As to how much? Double, to be exact.

In a preview note, Pacther indicated that Nintendo Wii will lead with 2.6 million units sold. The figure is a 32% dip from its last performance. On the other hand, Xbox will see a 91% boost with 2.5 million units sold, whereas the PS3 sold only 1.2 million.

“We expect strong sales for the Xbox 360 due to Kinect, and we believe that Kinect console bundles sold especially well. PS3 sales should be down, as sales from Move are unlikely to offset difficult comparisons from last September’s price cut,” said Pacther. “Given competition from the other consoles and as disclosed by Nintendo, we think that the Wii had another down month. We expect Nintendo DS hardware sales to also continue to struggle until the introduction of the Nintendo 3DS in March.”

Nintendo Promises No Downtime on Game Releases for 3DS

Written on January 11, 2011 by Chris Martin

Nintendo promises that it'll keep its momentum up for the 3DS by delivering a good line-up of games plus sticking to their release dates.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata promises that Nintendo 3DS players will not experience any downtime when it comes to game releases when the much anticipated handheld console breaks into the market. In an interview with Nikkei Keizai Shimbun newspaper, he states that it is “important that you be able to supply software with no pause.” He must’ve gotten the message when Nintendo fans got frustrated with the lack of games during the release of Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii.

In order for Nintendo 3DS to keep up it’s momentum, it’s vital that they’ll keep on releasing games after the launch of the console so that players won’t easily get bored. So far, the games we’re sure that will make a debut when Nintendo 3DS will come around is Resident Evil Revelations, Super Street Fighter IV, and The Legend of Zelda Ocarina. Not much for the arrival of the probably the world’s most revolutionary console, but perhaps its too early to tell.
