The 2011 numbers are out, and several familiar U.S. consumer technology hardware and consumable products came out on top once again.

According to The NPD Group’s recently released report, PCs are still king of the revenue charts, with laptops and netbooks making up 20 percent of all sales in 2011 with $28 billion. Amazon Begins Redesign Testing for Retail Site

Written on September 05, 2011 by Avlya Jaie

Amazon.com is in the process of testing out a redesign for its retail site.

Recent reports revealed that Amazon just started a redesign testing for its retail website — a possible signal for its new tablet’s arrival.

The Wall Street Journal confirmed that the tests began last week and will continue to be kicked off to more customers, though the date of its full launching remained undisclosed. The revamped design now gets a cleaner interface with more lighter space and larger search box. The manufacturer also announced that the redesigned site will be featuring new applications, digital games, ebooks, and MP3 songs.

Rumors have claimed that this redesigning issue might mark the launching of a tablet-optimized site. Last July, several reports were disclosed, stating that Amazon’s rumored Android-powered tablet might be released by October with a price of $250. Perhaps the company is aiming to offer the tablet in a much affordable price, so they could be one of iPad’s top competitor.

New York city band, Blondie, made an exclusive partnership with Amazon for their ninth album -- Panic of Girls.

The New York city band, Blondie, will be releasing their new album entitled Panic of Girls on September 13 through Amazon. This will be the ninth studio album of the said band.

Deborah Harry and Chris Stein, the singer and guitarist of Blondie, founded the band in 1974. It has become one of the most commercially successful bands to emerge from the New York punk and new wave scenes. They sold over 40 million records worldwide, and became one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer in 2006.

Blondie wasn’t the first major act that will have an exclusive partnership with a large retailer for a wide scale release. Rap artists, Jay-Z and Kanye West, recently had a partnership with Best Buy; giving the said retailer the exclusive rights to sell the CD version of Watch the Throne for the first two weeks it was available. On the other hand, Blondie’s Amazon partnership ensures that people will have to order Panic of Girls online.

Microsoft apologizes to Amy Winehouse's fans for their tweet that seems to be purely commercially motivated.

After tweeting through their account for Xbox to remember the recently deceased musician – Amy Winehouse – by buying her last album at Zune, the company received multiple Twitter flak.

After an hour of retweets along with comments such as “classy,” “crass much?” and “Microsoft- failing at social media,” the company followed their earlier tweet: “Apologies to everyone if our earlier Amy Winehouse ‘download’ tweet seemed purely commercially motivated,” it said. “Far from the case, we assure you.”

Amazon’s New Tablet Computer, to Hit the Market by October

Written on July 15, 2011 by Avlya Jaie

New tablet computer from Amazon, scheduled for a release in October.

Amazon finally intros its new tablet computer which will be launched in October. The said device will be produced in order to compete with Apple’s iPad, and also to help its own digital content store in marketing their music, movies, and other content.

Entering the tablet market would probably be a hard battle for Amazon, knowing that Apple has been the leader of tablet sales — with 19.5 million worth of devices that were sold since the iPad launching last year.

Though the company had not yet revealed some features of the upcoming tablet, few reports have leaked out that it will be a nine-inch screened tab running on Google’s Android platform. The new Amazon tablet would not feature any camera, unlike the iPad 2, but will be available in a pricing that is much affordable — making it the best choice over other tablets in the market.
