Wii U Controller Patent Application Unveils New Details

Written on August 15, 2011 by Japhet Writ

Nintendo's patent registration for its Wii U controller reveals many features that gamers should keep an eye for.

Nintendo’s patent application for the Wii U controller is said to feature a magnetic field sensor, flash memory and a dedicated CPU. In addition to this, the shuriken, baseball, golf demos, Shield Pose demo, and an airplane shooting game are described. The patent application also mentioned several possible specific technology implementations, but it can be subject to change.

The Wii U controller’s magnetometer, usually used as a compass when embedded in smartphones, is used as a reference orientation — a combination of accelerometer and gyrosensor motion data. Meanwhile, the dedicated CPU is embedded in a device referred as Codec LSI. This suggests that its primary purpose is to decode videos sent to the unit. In terms of video, it is generated in the Wii U console and sent over wireless connection. While the patent application specifically mentions H.264 as the system’s video codec, it indicates that a compression is required to stream videos. The MIMO capabilities of IEEE 802.11n WiFi is also mentioned as a data transmission method. The flash memory, on the other hand, might be used to store Mii character or more substantial data. Moreover, the Wii U controller contains an expansion port for unspecified accessories, though the application stated that this could be left off.

TweetDeck App for Android is Here

Written on August 12, 2010 by Japhet Writ

For users of Android operated handsets, handling your social media accounts is no longer a fuzz. The mobile OS welcomes TweetDeck -- your one stop app for Facebook, Twitter, Buzz, and Foursquare!

The popular social media management tool TweetDeck will be available as an Android app starting this Thursday. The company will also open the beta program in the morning. So far, the application is still in a beta form, meaning it still lacks finishing touches expected from a fully functional program. However, the app has an exciting potential.

Facebook, Twitter, Buzz and Foursquare accounts are integrated into a single application. Color-coded updates are presented in a single column. Included also in the app is a “Me” portion where user can review all their Twitter replies, plus comments and likes for their Facebook posts. The updates are pulled in a way that is easier on battery life, rather than having a real-time data stream that runs continuously. To wrap it up, the UI is clean and effective for handset display. Furthermore, the new Android app is a clear signal of where Apple-based applications are heading.

TweetDeck is looking forward to improving their map performance, handling of multiple Twitter accounts, video upload capacity and integration with the Android hardware. Don’t forget to share us your insights about the app once you have beta program.
