HTC Jetstream and LG Thrill 4G, Now Available on AT&T

HTC Jetstream 10-inch Honeycomb tablet and LG Thrill 4G Android smartphone goes on sale at AT&T.

The HTC Jetstream and LG Thrill 4G are finally available on AT&T. The Jetstream – which gets a retail price of $699 with a two-year contract – is not only the carrier’s first LTE-based 4G tablet, but it is also its first 10-inch tablet computer. It features an Android 3.2 system with HTC’s first version of Sense interface for Google OS.

Another thing that the HTC Jetstream is heavily promoting is its built-in dual-core Snapdragon. It is powered by a 1.5GHz MSM8260, instead of the previous NVIDIA Tegra 2 that Google uses for its earlier models. The tablet also offers a 12-hour battery life and a minimum of 32GB internal storage.

The LG Thrill 4G, on the other hand, is an Americanized version of the Optimus 3D device. It has a full support for AT&T’s HSPA+ 3G bands, and adds Gameloft 3D games and mSpot 3D movies to its powerful Android 2.2 system. The Thrill is jam-packed with cool features, including a dual 5.0-megapixel cameras that could record 3D videos, and a 4.3-inch, 480×800 screen display that could support glasses-free 3D. Furthermore, the handset also gets a dual-core, 1GHz TI OMAP chip and dual-channel memory, making it one of the fastest smartphones to date. The Thrill 4G could be yours for only $100 on contract.

Samsung Galaxy S II, to Compete iPhone 5

Samsung gave a hint that their upgraded Galaxy S II will include 1.5GHz Exynos dual-core processor to compete against iPhone 5.

Samsung has tipped its hand early on some of its plans for their smartphone with an early Korean unveiling of the newly upgraded Galaxy S II. The new Galaxy S II LTE is packed with 4G, a larger 4.5 inch screen, and an even faster 1.5GHz Exynos dual-core processor. It also features NFC wireless and a larger 1,850mAH battery.

Samsung also claimed that the Galaxy Tab 8.9’s month-delayed launch is also rewarding buyers for the wait. Along with the LTE, the tablet would get the same 1.5GHz dual-core chips and ships with Android 3.2. Despite its smaller screen, it should still measure 8.6mm thick like the Tab 10.1.

Verizon Wireless Won’t Release a Samsung Galaxy S II Variant

Written on August 27, 2011 by Avlya Jaie

Sources close to the company claimed that Verizon will not launch the Samsung Galaxy S II for their network.

Samsung has just confirmed that it will not launch the anticipated Galaxy S II smartphone on Verizon Wireless. Sources have hinted that the manufacturer will soon publicize this announcement, and would state that the device would only be released on other major wireless carriers — including AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint.

Up to now, it is still vague why the two companies have decided not to work together, even after Samsung’s Droid Charge has appeared on Verizon last May.

Samsung has indeed attained the highest sales rate in the smartphone market in 2010, comprising almost 13% of all the smartphone sales. However, having the lack of partnership with Verizon and the fact that Samsung is facing certain preliminary injunction issues from Apple, the growth of their future devices might be affected.

The Samsung Galaxy S II had already sold over 5 million units in just 85 days after its launching in Europe, Australia, and Asia. The Sprint version of the smartphone will then be available for $199 with a two-year contract.

Rumor: Sprint to Offer Apple’s iPhone 5 in October

Written on August 24, 2011 by Avlya Jaie

WSJ claims that Sprint, along with AT&T and Verizon, will be offering the iPhone 5 in mid-October.

Whether it’s real or just another rumor, this report would certainly catch the attention of most iPhone consumers. The Wall Street Journal had recently announced that Sprint will offer the 5th-generation iPhone once it has been released in “mid-October”, making it the third U.S. carrier to sell the iPhone 5, following AT&T and Verizon.

Sprint, one of the nation’s largest wireless service provider, is said to be the third to receive the anticipated device after Apple launched with AT&T in 2007 and with Verizon this year. Perhaps this is a good way to save the company from being left behind by Verizon and AT&T/T-Mobile’s merging.

New models of RIM BlackBerry 7-based smartphones, now hitting the stores!

Following their earlier plans, AT&T and Sprint have finally shipped three of their RIM BlackBerry 7-based smartphones.

Sprint announced that it has just made the BlackBerry Torch 9850 and the BlackBerry Bold 9930 available in stores. The two handsets are said to be the cheapest phones on the line, since the Torch 9850 only retails for $150 when purchased online with a contract; while the Bold 9930 costs $200 (also available with a contract). Take note that although this would be the fixed pricing for the devices, some US carriers still plans to offer the phones for $50 more on average.
