Chinese Road Workers Dig Up 700-Year-Old Mummy

This is the day when the mummy returns.

A normal day at a construction site turned extraordinary when road workers unearthed a well-preserved 700-year-old mummy.

The workers digging the road in Taizhou found the 5 feet tomb and two more coffins and immediately called archaeologists from Museum of Taizhou for help. The coffin contained a woman submerged in brown liquid. Experts say that the liquid might be the reason why the body is in its pristine condition; even the eyelashes were in place.

The dress of the woman, the ceramics and the ring on the woman’s finger traced back its roots to Ming Dynasty. If proven correct, her existence can be pointed between 1368 and 1644. During the rule of the said dynasty, only bodies of prominent people are qualified for the mummification process.
