Facebook and its New Purpose

Facebook's huge shift in purpose becomes a tool for organizing demonstrations, rallying public, and addressing societal concerns.
During the first two weeks of 2011, users of Facebook in Tunisia increased by eight percent. This is due to an uprising in the country dubbed as “Dignity Revolution”. The social networking site was used as a tool to organize demonstrations, which resulted to President Bin Ali’s official resignation.
Soon after the Dignity Revolution in Tunisia, Egypt started to witness mass protests that are still going on to this day. The country’s Internet was shut down for five days, but that did not stop the flow of information completely.
