World Celebrates International Women’s Day

This is what you call 'Girl Power'!
This year marks the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. Women and people around the world celebrated for the first time this event on March 19, 1911 in countries like Denmark, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The meeting of the Socialist International on the previous year paved the way for the establishment of this occasion.
Then in 1975, United Nations picked March 8 as the International Women’s Day. On the other hand, United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace is commemorated any day of the year decided by the Member States.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2011 is “Equal access to education, training and science and technology: Pathway to decent work for women.”
Included after the jump is a video shared on Equals blog showing male icon James Bond put himself in a woman’s shoe…literally.
