Foursquare is to Apple…So It Wants to Out-Apple Facebook

Mayoralty mania is still exclusive to a relatively smaller number of social media users, but it did not escape superpower Facebook's attention. Facebook Places come to existence, with the possibility of dispensing Foursquare's mayoral majesty. But Foursquare's founder Dennis Crowley is not even batting an eyelash.
“It’s difficult to build services that are supposed to scale to you know 30, 50, 100 million users right off the bat, because they got to be kind of tailored down, by definition they have to be a little bit generic to speak to that large of an audience,” Crowley said in a recoding of the Gillmor Gang.
Facebook had to undergo an image change as it got bigger, but Foursquare does not come in trembling to the scene. It welcomes users in with the ideas of play and joy at its core.
