Gollum to co-direct Lord of The Rings prequel

Yes, you read that right – Gollum will direct Lord of the Ring prequel “Hobbit” with Peter Jackson.
Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in the trilogy will be reprising his role and will also serve as second unit director for the Hobbit. The film series’ director, Peter Jackson, hired him.
Serkis to in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter:
“A lot of the crew from ‘The Lord of the Rings’ was returning to work on ‘The Hobbit.’ There is really a sense of Peter wanting people around him who totally understand the material and the work ethic.”
Serkis already has experience in directing, including performance capture on a couple video games including “Heavenly Sword.” But the actor said he was surprised and thrilled when Jackson asked him to co-direct. “When Peter asked me. There was this email out of the blue. It was a fantastic surprise,” Serkis revealed.
As for Serkis’ return to Middle Earth as the tragic creature Gollum, he said:
“I was looking forward to doing it. He never really left me.”
