Facebook CEO Mark Zuckenberg, announces the acquisition of the popular photo sharing app Instagram, in his Facebook Timeline, last Monday
Facebook has bought the popular photo sharing app Instagram, for a hefty amount of $1 billion. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckenberg, made the official announcement in a post in his Facebook Timeline: “I’m excited to share the news that we’ve agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team will be joining Facebook.”
Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom is likewise happy with the acquisition and has issued a statement in Instagram’s company blog saying: “We’re psyched to be joining Facebook and are excited to build a better Instagram for everyone.”
The sale is said to be finalized, later this quarter and will bring the nine-person staff of Instagram to Facebook’s corporate quarters.

It was announced December last year, that Instagram will soon have its Android version, now a sign up page for Android users has been opened.
It is not clear if the sign up page is just a pre registration page or if its purpose is to just notify the people who have signed up, on when the app will be available.
It was not clarified when the Instagram for Android app will be released.

18 year old popstar, Justin Bieber is now the most followed Instagram user after getting over a million followers last tuesday. This milestone comes just eight months after posting his first pic in this popular photo-sharing app.
Since joining Instagram, the Bieb has shared 281 photos and follows 15 users, including his girlfriend Selena Gomez, who is coincidentally the second most followed user. followed by Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian.
Instagram will soon release an android version and has been dubbed by Apple as its App of the Year in 2011.

Facebook is looking forward to challenging Instagram through releasing a dozen of dominant Photo Filters.
According to a report from the New York Times, Facebook is planning to outrun Instagram through adding new photo filters into its mobile applications. The social giant is indeed trying to enter the world of phone art photography after having a failed attempt to acquire the Instagram app.
Two Facebook engineers have just confirmed that there are already few Instagram-like photo filters slated for a release. However, its launching date still remains undisclosed. The report also states that Mark Zuckerberg, the site’s founder and CEO, is urging engineers and artists “to create more filters before releasing the new product”. “Facebook will also try to introduce new styles of filters with the hopes of drawing users away from other photo apps.”

Instagram, the popular photo sharing application for iPhone, boasts 150 million photos uploaded by over 7 million users worldwide.
Instagram seems to hit the limelight at times, as the company recently announced that they’ve already reached 7 million registered users with over 150 million photos being uploaded.
This record was just achieved nine months after the application hit the market. According to sources, the 150 million photos could be broken down into 1.3 million photos uploaded per day or 15 photos posted per second. Instagram CEO and co-founder, Kevin Systrom, even affirmed: “The growth of photos being posted per day is tracking on an exponential curve. It’s the one curve we look at to measure the health of the service and the addiction of the product.”

According to Photorank.me, Justin Bieber collected almost 1,700 followers in just one hour of using the said service. Instagram co-founder, Kevin Systrom, confirmed to the public that the photo was officially uploaded by pop star since it was linked from his Twitter account. He also stated that the celebrity’s single post had been the cause of the massive flow of people in the application, wherein Justin Bieber garnered 50 followers a minute.
