British Airways are gearing up for the future, as they replace paper formats with tablet PCs for their cabin crew.

According T3, the British Airways is switching from paper format to digital by equipping its cabin crew with tablet PCs. They are testing Apple’s iPad 2 which provides seating layout, profiles or special food requests.

The iPad 2 in testing have specialized software that shows the passenger manifest. It displays the seating layout, the place of each passenger, special dietary requirements, and live customer service update. Moreover, the passenger information will be updated in real time — even during the flight. Apple iPad 2 also displays timetables and safety manuals, making the cabin crew’s work easier.

As of the moment, the British Airways’ project is still in trial phase with 100 staff testing it. However, all 1,800 senior cabin crew would be getting the tablets in the months to come.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1: To be Removed from Sale in Europe

Written on August 10, 2011 by Japhet Writ

Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be removed from the European market, after the Regional Court of Dusseldorf granted Apple with preliminary injunction.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 – which went on sale last week – must be removed from sale in Europe. Moreover, the company must stop marketing it. This comes after the Regional Court of Dusseldorf granted Apple a preliminary injunction against Samsung’s sale and marketing of the said device in all European countries other than The Netherlands.

The ruling backed the Cupertino-based company’s claim that Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 infringed the intellectual property and copied the elements of iPad 2. And while the Korean conglomerate can make a counter appeal, the injunction will remain. That said, any appeal would be heard in about four weeks.

Samsung replied:

“Samsung is disappointed with the court’s decision and we intend to act immediately to defend our intellectual property rights through the ongoing legal proceedings in Germany and will continue to actively defend these rights throughout the world.”

Apple’s iPad 3, to Hit the Shelves by Thanksgiving?

Written on August 03, 2011 by Japhet Writ

Rumor Alert: Apple will release the iPad 3 as early as Thanksgiving.

It was rumored that Apple will break its cycle of releasing one iPad per year, as the Cupertino-based company is set to unveil the iPad 3 this year. The next-gen iPad is said to feature high resolution Retina Display, and it was also speculated to be an “iPad Pro” model. The said iPad Pro unit will compliment its iPad 2 predecessor, rather than completely replace it.

Taiwan Economic News reported that Apple’s iPad 3 could launch at iPad 2’s current price, while the latter will be discounted. This will be done in order to clear the device’s stock inventory. The report also added that the third-generation Apple tablet will hit the stores “by Thanksgiving or next year.”

However, speculations will remain as it is, so people will have to take these information as a grain of salt as of the moment.

Apple takes pride in releasing 200 million iOS devices, and 425,000 apps -- 100,000 of which are designed for iPads.

The year 2011 has been one of the most remarkable years for the Apple company, as they’ve been able to showcase a total of 425,000 applications and an increasing number of 100,000 iPad apps, elevating from the 90,000 number reported last month. There was also a record of billion applications that were downloaded from the App store every month, and almost 14 million units of iPads being produced for the quarter.

As stated by chief operations officer, Tim Cook, Apple became “the mother of all backlogs” when they released the iPad 2 this spring. The company’s suppliers have been affected by the earthquake that hit and damaged Japan. As the winter quarter opens, the sales of iPad grew to 7.33 million, but it decreased to 4.69 during the first calendar quarter of 2011.

Apple Might Release New “iPad HD” This Fall?

Written on July 08, 2011 by Avlya Jaie

Reports said that Apple is planning to release a redesigned iPad, the "iPad HD", this coming fall with a 9.7" 2048x1536 pixel display.

Recent reports from “This is my Next” claimed that Apple will be releasing its new “iPad HD”, a higher-resolution iPad, later this year. The said launching will be scheduled along with the current iPad 2, and will target consumers from the video and photo market. Few Apple apps, such as Final Cut Pro or Aperture, are also expected to be sold alongside the next-gen iPad.

Sources also discussed the issue of whether the next-generation iPhone should be referred as “iPhone 5″ or “iPhone 4s”, since there are previous news stating that Apple’s 5th-gen iPhone will just be an extension of iPhone 4 rather than a full iPhone 5 update. As reports disclosed, the company is planning to produce a smaller and lighter design for the next iPhone. However, they’ve done such tests within the limits of iPhone 4, which creates the idea that iPhone 5 is not really a complete redesign.

Apple: To Release Third-Generation iPad Later this Year?

Written on July 07, 2011 by Avlya Jaie

A report claims that Apple's next-generation iPad will just be an extension of iPad 2 rather than a full iPad 3 update.

Along with the issues of whether to name the next-generation iPhone as “iPhone 5″ or “iPhone 4S”, few reports as well revealed that Apple may release its third iPad device sometime this year — perhaps this would be about six months after the official debut of iPad 2.

FBR Capital Markets analyst, Craig Berger, cited: “There are some indications from the supply chain that Apple may look to introduce an ‘iPad 2 Plus’ device as they put out request for quotes from various component suppliers for this marginally different device. Apple may launch the device in late 2011″.

Most of the reports also claimed that the next-gen iPad will be called as “iPad3″. However, Craig Berger believes that the future device is not actually considered as a “full-fledged third-generation iPad.” Instead, it will only be an extension of the iPad 2. Thus, the right term to be used for the next-gen iPad is “iPad 2 Plus”.

What People are Really Doing with Their Tablets

Written on April 12, 2011 by Chris Martin

With tablets inching its way in replacing the laptops as a mobile computing device, it’s inevitable to ask the tablet-universe denizens on what they use their devices for. Good thing Google’s AdMob was up to the task as they polled tablet-owners in the U.S. on what they were doing on the devices. Is it for checking e-mails? Reading the digital newspapers, shopping online, playing games?

Well, the results definitely left a lot of people stagger as it seems the tablet is not only here to clash against the laptops, but most likely against the handheld gaming consoles as well (no surprise there, folks).

Check out the chart after the break!

Welcome to Toys "R" Us, where Apple iPad 2s "R" us, too.

Think Toys “R” Us wouldn’t get any better? Well, think again. According to ModMyi.com, America’s largest toy retailer will add Apple’s latest – and apparently fastest-selling – slate in its inventory, and it’s coming this May.

From Barbie dolls, to action figures, merchandises, gaming consoles, and then the Apple iPad 2. It seems like a considerable addition and might fit in nicely in Toys “R” Us’ growing roster. And if it’s not for the techiest of techie children, then it’s most likely for the adults who want the convenience of getting their shiny new iPads while they buy their kids something.
