‘Hop’ Jumps to Box Office Number One Spot, Beats ‘Source Code’

The Easter bunny is king of the movie theaters this week, as “Hop” leaps to number one spot in the box office.
The family comedy “Hop” which stars Russell Brand, conquered the No. 1 spot in the box office, with $38.1 million, Sunday. Brand gave voice to the movie’s lead, a reluctant new Easter bunny.
Released by Universal, “Hop” exceeded the expectations of movie analysts, who predicted the movie to debut with at least $25 million.
Meanwhile, Summit Entertainment’s action thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal, “Source Code” debuted at No. 2 with $15.1 million. The haunted-house tale “Insidious”, a Film District release featuring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, opened at No. 3 with $13.5 million.
