After the tragic shooting in Tucson, Arizona earlier this year, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords made her first public appearance in an event at Space Center Houston.

After being released from the hospital, Representative Gabrielle Giffords made her first public appearance in a ceremony at Space Center Houston in Texas. Her husband astronaut, Mark Kelly, awarded with the Spaceflight Medal and announced his retirement from NASA on October 1.

Gabrielle Giffords and Mark Kelly held their hands for almost the entire event. The representative’s hair is shorter than her previous photos. She wears glasses, a beige scarf, light shirt, jeans and sneakers at the event. She’s talking to people around her, smiled and waved to the crowd where¬†received a standing ovation.

The two is planning to collaborate with Jeffrey Zaslow to create a book, which will include Gabrielle Giffords memories before and after the incident. While the congresswoman focuses on her recovery and struggling to relearn how to speak and walk, Mark Kelly would be the primary collaborator for the book.
