Apple should be thrilled, for the first attempt to overthrow the iPod Touch is here. According to Amazon UK, the Samsung Galaxy Player is on its way to our palms by January 7.

While America will have to wait for summer to get hold of the ultimate iPod Touch competition a.k.a Samsung’s 3.2-inch Galaxy Player, Europe will be able to touch it this week. The Galaxy Player is out on Amazon UK. According to the pre-sale post, the Galaxy Player is on for a tentative release on January 7th. Amazon UK even provided prices and specs for the device. The device will be carrying two memory capacities, one is 8GB which sells for £150 (about $234) and a 16GB for £180 (roughly $280). Unfortunately, they are a bit short since there is no Retina Display to compare it with. But let’s see what’s in store for us.

Samsung Galaxy Player Challenges the iPod Touch this 2011

Move over iPod Touch, Galaxy Player is here! The Galaxy Player will show off on CES 2011 next year. And according to critics, the competitiveness of the device is too hot to handle. Tech geeks can only guess.

Beware Apple! Samsung plans to roll out it latest “phoneless” media player at CES 2011 with its newest Galaxy Player. The Galaxy Player is a music player that shares a lot of tech with its brother, the Galaxy tab. It runs on Android 2.2 OS and equipped with front and rear facing cameras.

Samsung hasn’t revealed if the slim and sexy player will be on sale, but the company unveiled that the 9.8mm-thin device will be available in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities. For the hard-core video enthusiasts, Samsung gives you a 4-inch 800×480-pixel touchscreen, with a 1GHz processor underneath to supply sufficient “oomph” for HD playback.

Although the Samsung Galaxy Player has promising properties, the competition with iPod is still questionable since they fall short of Apple’s 960×640-pixel “retina display.” But let’s see what it can do. Samsung plans to roll out its latest personal media player at CES 2011 on January 6 – 9. Spectators can’t take their hands off the CES 2011 this January in Las Vegas!

VLC Will Soon Be on iPad: If Apple Allows

Many movie addicts are wishing that VLC will be available on iPad too.

If you have no reason buy the iPad now, then maybe you’ll change your mind once you learn the good news . Did you know that VLC is coming to iPad? It’s not coming now, but soon it will. We just hope that ‘soon’ means any day now.

For those who doesn’t know VLC, VLC is like a drug for those addicted to videos. Why? Because it’s one of those video playback softwares that can be used by any individual, young or old. It can also be an expansion to a new existing device is something to be excited about. Knowing the fact that iPad is the world’s greatest device in terms of consumption, it needs the best media player.

VLC plays the codec, and when we say codec, all the codec you know. VLC plays the VIDEO_TS folders and lets you stream the Apple hardware on non-Apple hardwares, most of the time.

The problem is that VLC would be duplicating the functionality of QuickTime  4.46 trillion times better than ever. But Apple may not like that.

First Android-specific Trojan Detected

If you think Android is secured, think again. Kaspersky Lab just detected the first Trojan that hits the Google mobile OS. Beware of what you download! You might be giving the culprit premium priviliges.

The security firm Kaspersky detected the first malware that hits the Android. The file, named “Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.FakePlayer.a,” is downloaded as a typical .APK app and poses as a media player. Once installed, the Trojan will send SMS to premium rate numbers without the knowledge of the device owner. It seems that the creator of the malware benefits from the scam, since they are the ones who are on the other end of the premium numbers. According to Kaspersky researcher Denis Maslennikov, Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.FakePlayer.a is not available in the Android market but rather distributed from a malicious website.
