MySpace Cancels “Coming-out Party” with Justin Timberlake

Written on September 20, 2011 by Avlya Jaie

MySpace calls off its plans to use a summer news conference to disclose its future visions.

Earlier reports claimed that the social-networking website, MySpace, is planning to host its own “coming-out party” in order to show off the initial plans and new visions for the site. Pop star, Justin Timberlake — being the website’s investor, is expected to be a part of the said event.

Unfortunately, new owners – Specific Media LLC and Justin – announced that they are scrapping the plans for the party because MySpace’s popularity and visitor traffic is continuing to drop.

“Plans for transforming the site into a hot spot for entertainment have been more ‘incremental’ than anticipated,” a source reported to Wall Street Journal. Also, according to ComScore, the social network has only invited 33.1 million unique U.S. visitors last month, down to 44% from a year earlier.

MySpace now plans to re-launch the “coming-out party” during the Madison Avenue’s “Advertising Week” conference, which will be held in New York sometime next month. The said ad conference is expected to be much bigger and exciting as the Justin Timberlake party. Meanwhile, the social-networking site is also set to host an opening-night concert.

The bidding for News Corp.’s MySpace has officially begun.

A number of venture capital firms and other companies are seen to bid for News Corp.’s social networking site, MySpace.

MySpace, now considered as the one of the company’s disappointing properties, was recently declared for sale in an earnings call last February. Twitter Might Buy TweetDeck

Written on April 19, 2011 by R. Depp

Twitter is in talks to buy TweetDeck for $30 million, the Wall Street Journal reports.

TweetDeck is among the most popular third-party clients of Twitter, with versions for desktop, iPad, iPhone and Android. The app displays Tweets, @mentions and direct messages, together with a user’s Facebook updates all in real-time and in one screen. TweetDeck can also support feeds from other social media sites like MySpace, LinkedIn and Foursquare.

Although TweetDeck never revealed how many users it has, the U.K. based company seems to be one of the best tools of obsessive “power users” of social media. TweetDeck was previously reported to be in talks to sell for $30 million to UberMedia, but Twitter apparently saw the opportunity to steal the deal.

Why would Twitter want to get TweetDeck from UberMedia anyway?

People are not surprised with the release of invitation about the event involving Facebook and MySpace. It been awhile that rumors about Facebook and MySpace integration came about. Just wait and see where this project leads.

Today is a special day for Facebook and MySpace. The two social networking sites decided to do a joint announcement. This was according to an invitation that is currently spreading on social networking websites.

“Please join us for an invitation-only announcement by Mike Jones, CEO of Myspace (MySpace), and Dan Rose, VP of Partnerships and Platform Marketing, Facebook (Facebook),” stated the invitation. The invitation is set to start today at 12:00 PM PT via webcast.

People are speculating that this announcement could be MySpace using Facebook connect, something that has long been rumored. MySpace’s recent website and UI revamps transformed the site to an entertainment site rather than a direct competitor to Facebook. Now, MySpace focuses on its content and it seems Facebook Connect is its stepping stone.

Written on August 13, 2010 by Japhet Writ

iPad owners are the new Juliet of Shakespeare's infamous novel as MySpace releases its Music Romeo. Now you can watch music videos you not just like but also "love." And what's best is that it does not only deliver roses on your doorstep, it also offers you the latest trend in music.

MySpace launched an iPad app that is strikingly similar to Pandora Radio named Music Romeo. It’s a free application that uses a very simple discovery mechanism to offer a huge catalog of music videos to the iPad. How does it works? First, choose your type of music then pick a mood. After that, just sit back and relax because MySpace will choose the music videos for you. Once a video is done, Romeo will choose the next one that you might enjoy. The app includes a built-in controls for pause, skip, share and “Love.”

The Love button bookmarks your favorite video, so that you can watch more music flicks in case you can’t view others that feel otherwise. Music Romeo delivers a beautiful and customizable music video station with its simple, elegant and more than enough vids that can occupy you for hours. Romeo is also a dynamic app that scans social networks and blogs for currently trending music on the web. As a result, it puts on your doorstep music that you like and what’s hot on the internet.

If you already have Music Romeo on your iPad, post your reactions in the comments.

Digsby Now Supports Group Chat

Written on August 08, 2010 by Japhet Writ

Comments Off

At long last, Digsby has thought of adding Group Chat to its features. Now, users can enjoy talking to a lot of people at once. But that's not all! There's the new LinkedIn and MySpace API that you can use to like or dislike comments or stream. Digsby is really building up its interface.

A long over due group chat support feature is now included in the new version of Digsby. The update also includes an overhauled LinkedIn interface and MySpace’s like/dislike. The Social IM Client is taking advantage of LinkedIn’s revamped API. This API allow users to comment and “like” status updates. The MySpace interface, on the other hand, adds “Like!” and “Dislike!” buttons in the stream. It’s a workaround Digsby has to do though, since MySpace’s API doesn’t support liking or disliking.

The biggest change of the IM Client, by a mile, is the Group Chat. Users can start mass conversation in AIM, Google Talk, ICQ, Yahoo Instant Messenger, MSN and Jabber. Just click the list button at the top of the IM window, or just hit “New Group Chat” in the menu. After succeeding to gain one million users last year, Digsby has been hyping up it social media integration by creating a Twitter client and supporting Facebook, LinkedIn and MySpace.

No, you didn't open the wrong website. It's the new profile page of MySpace.

MySpace is testing a redesigned version of its profile pages. According to a MySpace representative, the company is hearing feedbacks from their users as they roll out the enhancements. Here are some noticeable changes with MySpace profile today:

  • The profile navigation has been condensed on the left side under the profile photo.
  • MySpace Stream – the site’s version of Facebook News Feed – is the focus of the new profile, wherein you can view a user’s recent activity, share content with friends and comment on items.
  • A new module is added to give you the option to follow a user not only in MySpace but also on other social networks like Facebook and Twitter.
  • The new profile features a better design than its former.

The new MySpace profile is a strong head start but whether it can turn things around the social network remains to be seen.
