Sony PS3 Disables HD Signals Coming from Component Cables

Written on July 13, 2011 by Avlya Jaie

Sony restrained the use of component cables when connecting PS3 systems into HD televisions.

Connecting your PlayStation 3 to your high-definition television can be done using three simple ways: You can either utilize component cables, composite cables, or an HDMI cable. However, a recent memo sent to GameStop and Kotaku announced that Sony’s PS3 systems will no longer use any component cables. Instead, an HDMI cable must be used in order to display high-def images.

“This means you will want to offer an HDMI cable with every new ‘K’ model PS3,” the memo stated. HDMI cables are sold separately and can be bought from any retail stores. Since Sony has disabled the use of such component cables, people who are planning to connect their new PS3 with an HD display are required to purchase HDMI cables. Take note that these changes won’t affect existing systems, only those that are bought recently.

Star Trek Phaser set at Sony’s E3 press conference

Written on June 14, 2011 by R. Depp

The Phaser, the PlayStation Move attachment awed people at Sony's E3 press conference.

Star Trek has hardly ever done action-adventure shooters on a console and has never done them with a playable Kirk and Spock. It will then be wish fulfilment for many when brought together in a third-person shooter, with cooperative, drop-in/drop-out play through all of its game modes.

Digital Extremes made Spock and Kirk work cooperatively but asymmetrically through using unique weapons and talents on the same targets. Some sequences will place them together on the screen doing different things.

Developer VanillaWare had announced that their next project, the Dragon's crown game is coming to PlayStation 3 and Vita

Murasama and Odin Sphere developer – VanillaWare – ‘officially announced’ its PlayStation 3 and Vita title, Dragon’s Crown. In equity to the publisher UTV Ignition, the game only showed up in last night’s Vita sizzle reel from the Sony’s press conference.

The very VanillaWare-looking game is described as a “dazzling new multiplayer online adventure”, and boasts it as the first VanillaWare game that features HD graphics. In addition to this, DC has four player co-op with online functionality that will arrive next year. As for what game is about, all they said is that it’s a class-based dungeon crawler, set in a medieval fantasy world with knights and dragons. The game’s goal is to unlock the secret behind the ancient dragon that’s threatening the whole world.

As with past VanillaWare games, DC is assured to be rich with hand drawn animation. And just like the other PS3/Vita titles, some form of cross-platform functionality will come packed in.

Written on February 10, 2011 by B Waldorf

Holy cow! Sony's Kevin Butler mistakenly tweets the PS3 Jailbreak code.

If you’re one of the avid followers of Sony’s VP for Realistic Movements Kevin Butler then you might be as surprised as the whole world upon seeing that tweet about PS3. Apparently, he just retweeted the famous Playstation 3 jailbreak code.

A Twitter user by the name of Travis La Marr (@exvia) tweeted the METLDR root key to Butler. The latter not realizing it was the infamous PS3 hack retweeted the post. However, Butler didn’t made a big deal out of it by asking if it was some kind of Battleship code. A huge mistake most hardcore gamers surely recognized. La Marr tweeted that he posted the comment:

“because of the way they (Sony) are handling it. Subpoenaing information from YOUTUBE on people who have WATCHED the video? Are you serious?”

Let’s wait for Kevin Butler to answer this issue.

Gaming Industry Falls Short in 2010; Xbox 360 and Kinect Skyrockets

Written on January 18, 2011 by Chris Martin

Xbox 360 and Kinect sales skyrocketed as they inch closer to the perennial winner, the Nintendo Wii. But even as the Microsoft console goes up, the entire industry starts to falter.

NPD reported last week that the video game industry didn’t do so well in 2010 despite huge hardware and software launches plus the emergence of extra-retail sources such as digital distribution and social games. Xbox 360 and Kinect sales on the other hand have skyrocketed threatening Nintendo Wii’s dominance, but wasn’t enough to compensate for the loss of the industry for the year.

New characters, new zones, new gameplay mechanics, and zombies. The Last Story and Yakuza of the End seem on their way to stardom with the recently released details.

Looks like Japanese developers are on a roll these past couple of weeks. With the Nintendo 3DS banging our heads with all the hype and excitement, several games still manage to move through the thickness of the hysteria over the new console as Yakuza of the End and The Last Story games detail new characters, new zones, and new gameplay mechanics.

We first turn our eyes to The Last Story where we are introduced to new characters, a little in-depth look of Ruli city and the arena system, plus new gameplay mechanics via the Tension Moves.

Zangurg and Tasha join in the story. Zangurg is the king of the Gurg race which will probably one of the main enemies in the game. Tasha, on the other hand, is a knight and student of General Trista who has no interest for mercenaries (aka you), as to whether he’ll be a playable character, it has yet to be announced.
