The Obamas Earned Two-thirds Less in 2010

President Barrack Obama and his family earned almost $2 million for 2010, which is about two-thirds less than their 2009's gross income.

President Barrack Obama and his family reported an adjusted gross income of $1,728,096 for 2010. That is about two-thirds less than their almost $5 million earnings in 2009. In addition to this, The Obamas paid $453,770 for federal taxes and donated 14% of their income to various charities — including Fisher House Foundation.

President Barrack Obama earns $400,000 for his day job. His paycheck was much bigger, because his books – Dreams from My Father, The Audacity of Hope, and Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters – still register strong sales. The US president is donating the proceeds from his Of Thee I Sing to Fisher House Foundation’s scholarship fund for children of fallen and disabled soldiers.

President Barrack Obama said in his speech last week that top earners, including himself, should pay higher taxes.

Holiday Bonus and Salary Appraisal from Google

Written on November 11, 2010 by B Waldorf

Since the holiday season is just around the corner, Google gives out holiday bonuses and raises to its hardworking employees. This maybe the reason why the company was billed as one of the best employers in the world.

Now it is clear why Google topped Fortune’s list of the best companies to work for. The search engine company gave their employees a salary increase of more than 10% and a $1,000 holiday bonus. The source also noted that Google will pay for the taxes as well as give employees salary appraisals equivalent to their target bonuses for the year.

A memo form the CEO Eric Schmidt of Google confirmed this.

“We’ve heard from your feedback on Googlegeist and other surveys that salary is more important to you than any other component of pay (i.e., bonus and equity). To address that, we’re moving a portion of your bonus into your base salary, so now it’s income you can count on, every time you get your paycheck. That’s also effective January 1st. You’ll be receiving an e-mail shortly with further details about these changes to your compensation. And one last thing…today we’re announcing that everyone will get a holiday cash bonus, too,” the memo said.

When Your Co-worker Earns More Than You Do

Written on November 09, 2010 by Japhet Writ

Learning that a co-worker earns more than you do can be infuriating, particularly if you're doing roughly the same work at roughly the same level. So what makes the differences?

Knowing that a co-worker earns more than you do, particularly if you are doing roughly the same work, can be infuriating. But there are things that might explain this disparity.

The way people negotiate about salary during a job offer varies. Some people accept the wage on the spot, while others push it a little more and get it most of the times. Your co-worker’s salary can be higher, simply because he asked for more. Unfortunately though, asking for more now won’t close the gap. More over, one’s salary can also depend on the condition of the job market when you were hired. A few years back, when jobs were plenty, employers had to offer more money to attract the best people. But in a market like this, employers can hire good people for lower salaries. This could explain the difference if you were hired during an employer’s market.
