Google+ announces a new policy that allows the use of nicknames, maiden names or alternate names.

Google Vice President of Products Bradley Horowitz has announced a new policy that allows the use of nicknames or alternate names.

This new policy enables support for alternate names by allowing users to add additional names such as nicknames, maiden names or names in another script. This name will appear on the user’s Google+ profile page and in the hovercard alongside the common name.

Horowitz posted the announcement on his Google+ page, stating that the new policy hopes to ‘address and remedy’ the majority of name related appeals that Google+ has been receiving. It also aims to simplify the use of pseudonyms that will benefit individuals with established identities.
